Top executives at Meta and Google have received hefty bonuses and compensation, while thousands of employees have been laid off with more job cuts expected.
Meta workers questioned CEO Mark Zuckerberg about the six-figure bonuses given to senior executives during a virtual Q&A session, reported Entrepreneur.
According to the company's filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), high-ranking executives received big bonuses based on individual performance calculations. Chief financial officer Susan Li received $575,613 in bonuses; chief product officer Chris Cox
$940,214 among other to- level position holders. Similarly, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai and other top executives received multi-million-dollar compensation in 2022, according to company’s SEC filing.
“Why did the entire executive team get EE/GE ratings (top-tier performance reviews at Meta) when they are also directly responsible for the choices that led to us needing to lay off 20+ per cent of the company? Where is the accountability?” one employee asked Zuckerberg, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Zuckerberg reportedly defended the bonuses by stating that some of the executives had taken on expanded roles, but employees were not satisfied with his response.
